As the founding partner at Megawatt, Sean Kennedy oversees strategic planning, business development, and the creation of a network of partnerships for the company. Under his direction, Megawatt’s primary focus has been to identify unique solutions for siting electric plants. Sean identifies business opportunities for the company and develops the commercial and government relationships required to seize them.

Sean comes to Megawatt with extensive expertise in energy policy and the natural resources field, as well as a strong background in issues-driven media. Sean served at the U.S. Department of Energy as a political appointee in the Clinton Administration. During these eight years, he served on the senior staff of the Secretary of Energy and was deeply involved in the Secretary’s priority effort to promote renewable energy. While serving in the Clinton Administration, Sean was a coordinator of the first White House Climate Change Conference, where renewable energy was promoted as an important solution to climate change.

Before becoming the founding partner at Megawatt, Sean worked in Eastern Europe for eight years as the Managing Partner at Summit International Relations, focusing on creating financial and strategic partners for solar and other renewable energy projects on behalf of local developers. When necessary, Sean negotiated with and directed engineering firms on behalf of his clients. He has worked with engineers and construction contractors on natural resources, energy, and technology projects throughout his career.

Sean has a strong academic and professional background in geology. While at the University of Iowa, he earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in the field of geology. His Master’s research focused on metamorphic petrology and structural geology. While working on and after the completion of his degrees, Sean worked as an exploration geologist and groundwater geologist.
